Footfall - Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle

This is the Thirty-fourth in my one-book-at-a-time bookshelf.

This is my other favourite book with two authors.

This 1985 work has all the structure of a disaster novel of that era, but has all the bloodlines of science fiction class. It has a large cast, a sprawling story line, cultural references and aliens.

Excellent.

  1. Ha! I read this in 2006, and made the following note:
"I only persisted with this one because I kept hoping it would get better. And then I passed the point of no return and finished it for the sake of finishing it. All the characters were caricatures, especially the aliens."
Now I'm wondering if I should re-read it...

    1. It is funny how some books are of the moment and you wonder why you liked it the first time. I have read this a few times but not recently. I suspect you have raised expectations of your SF. Fair enough.
